The Lord’s Need for Overcomers (1)
The calling of the overcomers is the last demand that the Lord made in the entire Bible. In the entire Bible the Lord required many things first of mankind, then of His chosen people, and then of the church. However, from these three groups of people the Lord did not get what He required. Then, finally, in Revelation 2 and 3 the Lord sounded His call to the overcomers. Today the Lord needs overcomers. In the book of Judges Gideon was raised up to take care of the fighting for God’s people. When Gideon sounded the call, thirty-two thousand men responded (6:34-35; 7:3b). Then God told Gideon that this was too many (7:2). Gideon told the fearful ones to return, and twenty-two thousand withdrew, leaving ten thousand (v. 3). Then God said to Gideon that this was still too many (v. 4a). God gave Gideon a way to test the people to determine whom God would choose and whom God would not choose. The way God used was to observe how the men took care of their necessities. Eating, drinking, and clothing are the basic items of our daily necessities. Gideon led the men to the water and allowed them to drink (vv. 5-6). Out of ten thousand, only three hundred drank the water by standing by the river and taking some water in their hands and lapping the water from their hands. These were the ones whom God would use for the army. The rest of the men knelt down on their knees and drank. They took care of their necessity much more than God’s need, and God sent them back.
In 1986 I sounded the trumpet, as Gideon did…I told the brothers that I had a heavy burden upon me because for more than ten years our rate of increase had remained nearly the same. I was desperate and felt compelled to study the situation. This is a matter of life and death. At that time I was calling the overcomers for the Lord. For six years after that we made very little progress, so at this present time I am sounding the same trumpet again. To answer the Lord’s call today, we all need to be desperate.
In 2 Timothy 2:4 Paul says, “No one serving as a soldier entangles himself with the affairs of this life.” The affairs of this life are related to our necessities. We need to sacrifice something for the Lord. If we would do the same thing that we have been doing for the past fifteen years, surely we will not gain the increase…If this is the case, we will be inferior to two heretical groups, the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Although these two groups are heretical, they have gained a substantial increase during the past fifty years. They did this by the way of door-knocking.
We need to take care of the Lord’s demand, the Lord’s requirements, much more than our necessities. In 1937 Brother Nee gave an illustration concerning the rapture at the Lord’s coming. A sister asked Brother Nee concerning the rapture. That sister had a daughter who was a real treasure to her. Brother Nee told her that when the Lord Jesus comes, if she would ask, “Where is my daughter?” she would miss the rapture. If we love something and take care of that more than the Lord’s interests, when the Lord Jesus comes, we will miss the rapture. Ang pagtawag sa mga mananaog maoy kataposang hangyo nga gibuhat sa Ginoo diha sa tibuok biblia. Nagkinahanglan og daghang mga butang ang Ginoo, una sa mga katawhan, dayon sa Iyang mga piniling katawhan, ug dayon sa iglesia nga makita nato sa tibuok biblia. Bisan pa niana, gikan ning tulo ka mga grupoha, wala gihapon nakuha sa Ginoo ang Iyang gikinahanglan. Dayon, sa kataposan, sa bugna 2 ug 3, nagpatingog ang Ginoo sa Iyang pagtawag sa mga mananaog. Nagkinahanglan ang Ginoo karon og mga mananaog. Sa basahon sa mga maghuhukom, gipabangon si Gideon nga mangatiman sa pakiggubat alang sa mga katawhan sa Dios. Sa dihang nagpatingog si Gideon pinaagi sa pagtawag, 32 ka libo ang mga nitubag (6:34-35; 7:3b). Dayon gisultian sa Dios si Gideon nga daghan kaayo sila (7:2). Gisultian ni Gideon, ang mga nahadlok nga mopauli, ug 22 ka libo ang nibiya, 10 ka libo ang nabilin (v.3). Gisultian gihapon sa Dios si Gideon nga daghan ra sila (v.4a). Gitagaan sa Dios si Gideon og paagi aron sulayan ang mga katawhan aron matino kon kinsa ang pilion sa Dios ug kinsa ang dili pilion sa Dios. Ang paagi nga gigamit sa Dios mao ang pag-obserbar sa mga tawo kon giunsa nila pag-atiman sa ilang mga panginahanglan. Ang pagkaon, pag-inom, ug bisti mao ang sukaranang mga butang sa ilang adlaw-adlawng mga panginahanglan. Gidala ni Gideon ang mga tawo ug gitugotan niyang moinom (vv.5-6). Sa 10 ka libo, 3 ka gatos ra ang niinom pinaagi sa pagtindog daplin sa suba ug nagkuha sa tubig pinaagi sa ilang kamot ug nagsuyop sa tubig gikan sa ilang mga kamot. Kini ang mga tawo nga gamiton sa Dios aron mahimong Iyang kasundalohan. Nangapiko sa ilang mga tuhod ang uban sa mga tawo ug niinom. Gitagad nila ang ilang mga panginahangalan labaw sa panginahanglan sa Dios, ug Gipapauli sila balik sa Dios.
Sa 1986, gipatingog nako ang trumpeta, sama sa gibuhat ni Gideon… gisultian nako ang mga igsoong lalaki nga duna koy bug-at nga luwan tungod kay lapas na 10 ka tuig apan ang atong rate sa pagdaghan nagpabilin gihapon sama ra kaniadto. Desperado kaayo ko ug nabati gyod nako nga tun-an ang kahimtang. Matang kini sa kinabuhi ug kamatayon. Nianang panahona nagtawag ko sa mga mananaog alang sa Ginoo. Unom ka tuig human niana duna ra tay gamay nga paglambo, busa ning panahona karon nagpatingog na sab ko sa samang trumpeta. Sa pagtubag sa tawag sa Ginoo karon, kinahanglan desperado gyod tang tanan.
Sa ikaduhang timoteo 2:4 niingon si Pablo, “Walay nag-alagad ingon nga sundalo nga magpagapos sa iyang kaugalingon sa mga atimanonon ning kinabuhia”. may kalabotan sa mga panginahanglan nato ang atimanonon ning kinabuhia. Kinahanglan ta mosakripisyo alang sa Ginoo. Kon buhaton nato ang samang butang nga gibuhat nato sa nilabayng 15 ka tuig, sigurado gyod nga dili ta makabaton sa pagpadaghan….kon kini ang kahimtang, mahimo tang ubos sa duha ka mga heretico, ang Mormons ug ang Jehovah’s witnesses. Bisan heretico ning duha ka mga grupo, nakabaton sila og dakong pagdaghan sa nilabayng 50 ka mga tuig. Gibuhat nila kini pinaagi sa pagpanuktok sa pultahan.
Kinahanglan nato atimanon ang gihangyo sa Ginoo, ang gikinahanglan sa Ginoo, labi pa sa atong mga panginahanglanon. Sa 1937 naghatag og hulagway si brother nee kalabot sa paglalin sa pagbalik sa Ginoo. Nangutana ang usa ka sister kang brother nee kalabot sa paglalin. Dunay anak nga babaye ning sistera nga tinuod niyang bahandi. Nagsulti si brother Nee niya nga sa pagbalik sa Ginoo, kon mangutana siya , “ asa akong anak?” masal-angan niya ang paglalin. Kon nahigugma ta sa mga butang ug ampingan nato kini labaw pa sa mga interes sa Ginoo, sa pagbalik sa Ginoo, masal-angan nato ang paglalin.
